Chopard At The Cannes Film Festival A Roaring Sixtieth!
The Chopard constellation is replete with stars. For proof, the 60th Cannes Film Festival, where the Geneva based watchmaker and jeweller pulled out all the stops.
Jane Fonda, Charlotte Rampling, Angelina Jolie, Maggie Cheung, Julianne Moore, Zhang Ziyi, Helen Mirren, Gong Li, Elodie Bouchez, Toni Collette, Maria de Meideros, Ludivine Sagnier… a star cast beyond any directorA’s wildest dreams for their next movie but in evidence for Chopard at the recent film festival in Cannes! From 16 to 27 May this year, all of the above actresses and many more chose to wear jewellery by the Geneva based watchmaker and jeweller, either to shine as they mounted the famous steps or at the numerous parties interspersed throughout the event in the run-up to the award of the Palme d’or - a trophy designed and made by Chopard A– which this year went to the film "4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days" by Roumain Cristian Mungiu. But for the firm from Meyrin, the highlight of the event took place on 25 May with the presentation of the Chopard trophy.
In 2001, moved by their passion and their common desire to support young talents excel in the film world, the Geneva based company, the Cannes Film Festival and Studio Magazine created the Trophée Chopard. Since then, every year, a young actor and a young actress are compensated for their exceptional talent.
Audrey Tautou and Eduardo Noriega in 2001, Paz Vega, Ludivine Sagnier and Hayden Christensen in 2002, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diane Kruger in 2003, Marion Cotillard et Rodrigo Santoro en 2004, Keilly Reilly and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in 2005 as well as Kevin Zegers and Jasmine Trinca in 2006. Every one of the fortunate laureates receives a remarkable trophy, created by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, Co-President and Creative Director of Chopard: a role of film designed in gold, handcrafted by the master jewellers of Chopard.
This yearA’s laureates are the American actor Nick Cannon, seen in Bobby, a film about the murder of Robert Kennedy and Archie Panjabi, an actress of Indian origin, to be seen in Cannes in A Mighty Heart, staring Angelina Jolie. They received the trophy from Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele and Gilles Jacob, the president of the Festival, in the lounge of the Carlton hotel. No less a person than Jude Law congratulated the young laureates on their success, before the three of them left for a glamorous soiree on the Golden Sea Terrace of the Roseraie in Port Canto.
To celebrate the 10-year-partnership between Chopard and the festival, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele received her guests in a place specially created for the festivities. More than 800 guests enjoyed dinner, followed by a party, in a stunning ambience on the waterfront, overlooking the legendary Croisette. Matching the motto "Ten Golden Years", the Roseraie was sparkling in precious gold; drapery, statutes and an assortment of exquisite small delicacies from Lenôtre: lobster, foie gras, crayfish, truffles, all coated with 400 Gold lamellas and served with Palmes dA’Or champagne.
Amongst the guests were Dita von Teese, Rose Mc Gowan, Marion Cotillard, Amira Casar, Emma de Caunes, Naomi Campbell, Elie Semoun, Harvey Weinstein, Kenneth Cole, Afef, Laura Chiatti, Michelle Rodriguez, Rosamund Pike, Lio, David Furnish and jury members Sarah Polley, Maria de Medeiros, Sarah Polley and Toni Colette. A haute joaillerie fashion show with 30 models, all dressed in gold, further enhanced the glamour of the soiree. Caroline Gruosi-ScheufeleA’s close friend Sir Elton John rounded the evening off with a private concert.
